Regular Meeting, 7:00 p.m. / Social Hour, 6:30 p.m.

Mass Audubon Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center, 414 Massasoit Road, Worcester

Speaker:  Garry Kessler

Program:  Atlantic Puffins and Downeast Maine
Downeast Maine offers birding experiences that range from boreal lakes and forests to rocky shores. Longtime Forbush member and nature photographer Garry Kessler shares his insights and images from a recent trip to Machias Seal Island. Garry has made multiple trips to the region in search of close photos of some of the area’s birds such as Spruce Grouse and Atlantic Puffins. Once hunted nearly to extinction, Atlantic Puffins have made a comeback with thousands nesting on Machias Seal Island, 10 miles off the Maine coast. This year Garry’s persistence was finally rewarded with a visit to the island, the only offshore location where visitors can land and observe Puffins and other nesting alcids up close.
