Wachusett Reservoir IBA

Seven members of the Forbush Bird Club had a great trip around the Wachusett Reservoir IBA this morning. Temps started off at 60 and ended at 82F with a light breeze throughout the day. We started with the traditional 2.8 mike hike to wood island. Lots of breeding activity with many recently fledged songbirds all around. Highlights were the wood island Common Loon pair with an adult on the nest and Bald Eagle pair with 2 very large young on the nest. We all had great looks at 2 yellow-billed cuckoos, bufflehead (non-breeding at cemetery island), orchard oriole, and a huge movement of young American toads moving through the forest floor. Great day.
